Expedición a Juan Fernandez

Setting sail from our operational base in the stunning Zapallar town less than 2 hours from Santiago, we are now offering an innovative scuba diving expedition to the Robinson Crusoe Islands, locally known as “Archipiélago de Juan Fernández”. The islands are located 350 nautical miles off the Chilean coast, enjoying a Mediterranean climate with an average annual temperature of 15 Celsius.

Inspired by Daniel Defoe`s classic novel, these majestic volcanic islands offer some of the world’s most stunning scuba diving experiences. In 1977, UNESCO designated the islands an International Biosphere Reserve.

Robinson Crusoe Island is a destination desired by many but few have achieved. Its accessibility is challenging since it has no commercial airport and can only be reached by light aircraft or by sea.

Our company “Tiempo de Fondo” has over 25 years of experience and is recognized as Chile’s leading provider based on its creative and cutting-edge approach for local and international customers. Compliance with international safety standards is our priority.

We welcome you to visit this spectacular location and enjoy our unforgettable sailing and scuba diving expeditions to the Robinson Crusoe Islands. We are able to accommodate different interests and time frames based on our tailor-made approach to meet our customers needs.

Diving in this archipelago is simply breathtaking and recognized as some of the finest in the world. The abundance of native sea life is awe-inspiring with 98% of species only found in the peninsula.

With close to 20 meter visibility and water temperatures between 15 and 20ºC, diving in the archipelago is a thrilling experience. Enjoy a submersion with the Juan Fernandez fur seal, thought to be extinct until the 1960’s when a group of 200 were found off the coast of Robinson Crusoe Island. Now it is estimated that more than 12,000 are in existence. Relish diving around the seamounts rising from the Pacific Ocean floor, covered with colorful corrals and sponges.

For those lucky enough to have the opportunity, diving in these waters is a unique and incredible experience.
